Patti Negri, the Good Witch, is a psychic medium known for 11 years of appearances on Ghost Adventures. In this episode she shares the story of Belle, her haunted doll, a seance she says ended with a cameraman on fire, and the simple 30-second spells she uses to restore balance every day.
About This Episode
Patti has held seances since childhood and now tours about 35 weeks a year, teaches through her own online school, and hosts The Witching Hour podcast. She explains how seances differ from mediumship and psychic readings, why she practices only positive magic, and what she has learned about respect and boundaries in some of the world’s most haunted places
A Lifelong Gift
Patti says she knew before kindergarten that her imaginary friends were the spirits of real people
Her mother told her that both her grandmothers had the same ability
She held her first seance at age 7 or 8 in her suburban Los Angeles home
She believes every child can see spirits until a logic-focused culture teaches it out of them
Belle, the Haunted Doll
While Patti was teaching on camera, with both hands in view, a nearby Barbie moved six inches into the frame
She says enlarging the video showed an orb flying from her bookcase into the doll and back out
A woman in Belgium sent her Belle after the doll made her sick for three years and made her hair fall out
The woman found Patti after seeing her hold a seance on Deadly Possessions with Peggy the doll
Patti opened Belle on her first Facebook Live, and 50,000 people tuned in
She banished a dark overlay first, then kept herbs in Belle’s hands so the doll wouldn’t drain anyone’s energy
Her pets once avoided the doll; now they lie beside her, and Patti calls Belle a member of the family
Adrian, the House Ghost
Patti lives in a 1920 house in Hollywood’s oldest neighborhood, beneath the Hollywood sign
Adrian, the artist who owned the house until her death in 1998, left decades of art and belongings in the basement
At Patti’s garden wedding, she says roses kept jumping out of her bouquet, and neighbors knew at once it was Adrian
Adrian is French, and Patti says she was giddy when a French film crew came to shoot at the house
Patti says Adrian developed a crush on the show’s star and followed him to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
Respect, Boundaries and Dark Energy
Patti says spirits must play by the rules of our three-dimensional realm
When something negative shows up, she tells it to leave calmly and confidently, like a parent or teacher saying “not today”
She says most spirits in prisons and asylums are not trapped, just hanging out in the life they knew
Problems only arise, she says, when she drops her protections or someone becomes disrespectful
The Seance That Caught Fire
The Mary Astor House near Patti’s home was built by Charlie Chaplin and later hosted the Rolling Stones, the Mamas and the Papas, and Marilyn Manson
During a filmed seance there, a young participant kept making disrespectful remarks
Patti says the French doors flew open twice, and an unplugged speaker began hissing white noise
Then, she says, the cameraman facing him burst into flames, and two cameras caught it
For the first time in her career, Patti stopped a seance, then called in her dragon protectors
Three weeks later, she says, the cameraman’s burn had healed into the shape of a dragon
The cameraman, a skeptic, went on to write a film about it, and Patti rewrote lines in the script she felt could open a portal
Seances, Mediumship and Trusting What Comes Through
Patti helped a young widow unlock her late husband’s iPhone, recovering a thousand photos for their toddler
Her seances follow the Victorian spiritualist style, a circle that she says heightens everyone’s senses for days
Psychic readings look at probabilities in love, health and career, while mediumship is direct communication with the deceased
She says the deceased usually don’t care about the last five minutes of a relationship, and urge the living to let go of guilt
A giraffe appeared at her dining table seance, belonging to a guest who grew up on a South African reserve
On Portals to Hell, a bird she almost didn’t mention turned out to be central to the location’s story
Patti calls haunted objects a collaboration of energy, and believes the Philip experiment may have created a real spirit
On Set with Ghost Adventures
Patti is never told where she is going, and she says she has had cracked ribs and been pushed down stairs
One shoot sent her down a dirt road outside Phoenix, warned about killer pigs, scorpions and Valley fever
Another left her driving alone through Death Valley with no GPS, phone signal or music
She prefers happy ghosts, like those she says hang from the chandeliers at the Hollywood Roosevelt
At Chateau Marmont, she says she spotted a frustrated ghost pacing while waiting to be seated
Positive Magic and 30-Second Spells
Patti practices only positive magic, saying whatever you send out comes back to you
She will cast a love spell to bring you the love of your life, but not one aimed at a specific person
Running water releases excess emotion; she suggests holding your hands under any faucet for 30 seconds
Thirty seconds of deep breathing and vowel sounds, she says, clears foggy and chatty thinking
Touching wood or stone grounds you, and a lightning-strike sound balances too much or too little fire
She calls cooking pure spellcraft and says witchcraft is the fastest growing religion in America
