“My dad and I used to go fishing. And he said one day I'm gonna teach you to go crabbimg. Now cribbing is very different. There's like the seal kind of a trap. It's four sides. It's a square-size thing. And you throw this thing into the water. It's on a rope, and you leave it alone. So my dad being very tall, six, two, he says, “Don't touch the rope.” So he starts walking away, and he's walking down the pier. It was like a duck thing. And there was a bunch of little boys there. So he went over to say, what are you guys fishing for? And I heard “pick it up, pick it up, pick it up.” And it was getting louder. So I went over and I started pulling the rope. And I see him turn around, and he's kind of marching back to me, and I thought, “Oh my god.” So I pulled it out of the water with the sprint of a nine-year old, you know, and the biggest blue crab was in the net, you know? And these boys came running over, they went, “Oh, my God, look at the size of that.” And my father was in shock. And I and I said, Well, I'm going to pay attention to that. I heard it. So that for me was my first experience with clairvoyance.”

Psychic Medium Catherine Nadal is also the author of two books, “Seeing More Than Clouds in Your Coffee: Stories of a psychic medium in New York City” and “And She Danced by the Light of the Moon: Behind the Eyes of a Psychic Medium in NYC.” She is a certified medium with The Forever Family Foundation which uses science-based testing to assure all mediums are genuine and highly accurate. She is also a nurse, and served in the military where she retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel after serving for 30 years.

Catherine and Liz decided to make a Valentine’s Day theme for this episode since they both know the holidays are very hard for those in grief. Both share how, while neither lost a partner, Valentine’s Day was special when they were children. They both lost their dads and remember getting meaningful gifts from them during Valentine’s Day. Also Catherine, who along with being a medium, has now been certified as a grief educator with Dr. David Kessler.

She shares how she first discovered she had psychic medium abilities, when she was a child and heard a voice while fishing with her dad. She also had a dream visitation from an elderly woman who was a neighbor. Catherine was young at the time. living at home, but helped this woman who was wheelchair-bound. Catherine was amazed to discover that after her dream of this woman standing up and hugging her, this woman had actually just passed away, causing Catherine to conclude this must have been a dream visit. However, it was a struggle, because when she shared this dream with her family, they were uncomfortable with her abilities.

Liz and Catherine discuss memories of their dads, grief, some amazing and evidential experiences Catherine has had and information she got during readings as well as a time when she was serving in the military. Catherine also shares how she does a special type of psychic medium reading called “coffee readings” where she reads the coffee beans left in the cup after a client has drunk the coffee.

The two dicuss how coffee readings could work. Is it PK - mind’s ability to affect matter and “move” the bean remnants? Can anyone do them or is this a “tool” Catherine uses for her abilities as a psychic medium.

This episode gets a little personal with both Catherine and Liz sharing memories of their dads, how their dads were alike in certain ways, grief, and of course evidence that consciousness can survive bodily death, and that their dads, and your loved ones, are still around.

What we talk about in this episode:

  • Psychic medium Catherine Nadal is certified by Forever Family Foundation, a registered nurse, a retired army colonel, and is recently certified as a grief educator with Dr. David Kessler

  • Both Liz and Cathy lost their fathers and they have a hard time on holidays

  • Valentine’s Day is hard for those in grief, and not only those who have lost a partner, although that is incredibly hard

  • Cathy shares some ideas and tips for those in grief on how they can get through Valentine’s Day

  • Cathy is clairvoyant, sees information as a medium, and clairaudient, hears information

  • Liz and Cathy’s dad had the same hobby, and Cathy had “gotten” this hobby when she gave Liz a reading. She was surprised it was the same one

  • Cathy shares the first time she noticed she had psychic medium abilities while fishing with her dad

  • She is also a nurse and was drawn to nursing to help heal

  • But being a nurse can be really sad. For example, Cathy never forgets the family who lost their husband/father on Valentine’s Day

  • She learned a lot as a nurse, such as that hearing is the last sense to go, so talk to your loved one’s when they seem unconscious

  • Cathy shares about a few evidential experiences she had during readings - one while recording a YouTube with actor Chance Kelly at The Thomas Paine house and another regarding tattoos during a group reading. The tattoo message did not make sense to her at first, or to the woman Cathy was reading, but later when this woman got more information, the message was verified.

  • Cathy also had an interesting experience of getting information regarding the safety of a Lieutenant while she was serving in the army

  • Dreams can be frustrating because psychic mediums only get pieces of information, not the full picture

  • Cathy did have a dream when she was young where she was “visited” by an elderly and sickly neighbor she helped. This turned out to be a visitation dream as Cathy learned the woman had passed away that night

  • There is a lot of stigma against being a psychic medium

  • How do people know if they are having a normal dream or a visitation dream? It’s not always easy to tell.

  • They both discuss the Forever Family Foundation and the huge impact the cofounder, Phran Ginsberg, had on their lives.

  • Cathy shares a time she felt her dad with her, supporting her

  • Cathy talks about “coffee readings.” This is a type of psychic medium reading she does where a client drinks a cup of coffee and Cathy “reads” the bean residue at the end to get information about her client. Liz has many questions about how this could work.

  • Cathy shares a Valentine’s Day ritual she does to honor those who have passed away.
