According to Philip Guillet, PhD LCPC NCC:
“I have had a lifelong fascination with spirituality and the paranormal. Growing up, I was deeply into Star Wars and Ghostbusters, and I have no doubt that they were profoundly influential in shaping my spiritual worldview. There was something so intriguing about a seeming “hidden” world that existed right behind our own. Something that felt so close and personal, yet so distant and intangible. I was a kid who asked a lot of questions about who we are and why we’re here. I even explored religion as a means of seeking answers, but never felt fully satisfied with what I got.
I eventually got my Bachelors in psychology, my Masters in pastoral counseling, and am now completing a doctoral program in psychology. My dissertation is on the phenomenology of evidential mediumship. My research focuses on the particular experience of spirit communication and explores what it’s like to interact with non-local forms of consciousness.
To prepare for this research, I reviewed hundreds of peer-reviewed studies that examined anomalous spirituality and mediumship. Some of the studies I presented in my dissertation’s literature review focused on the psychology of atypical spirituality and the psychological effects of anomalous spiritual experiences. Some studies examined the physiology, neurology, and genetics of evidential mediums while other studies focused on statistically evaluating the accuracy of evidential mediums’ readings.
Upon review of the research, it is evident that science and religion are on a similar page: that a solely biological model of consciousness is insufficient in effectively explaining human existence. A spiritual dimension to consciousness is, in fact, supported by the literature.”
