“We are showing evidence for psychic functioning, right? Regardless of afterlife stuff, right? There's evidence for some type of psychic functioning and that is, in and of itself incredible, because it speaks to this entire new way of thinking about reality. Right? It opens us up to this whole possibility of this non-materialist based reality, that we're connected in ways that materialist reality can't even begin to touch. That we maintain these relationships through space and time. That to me is just so incredibly profound and amazing.”

Mark Boccuzzi is cofounder of The Windbridge Institute and The Windbridge Research Center, which he cofounded with along with his wife Dr. Julie Beischel in 2008. The Windbridge Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to research around survival of consciousness after death making one of the best people in the world to discuss valid research and scientific studies of psychics, mediumship, and possible evidence of an afterlife. . They have a team of seventeen Windbridge Certified Research Mediums who had to pass rigorous testing to eliminate any chances of cheating or cold reading and show that they could get accurate information significantly beyond the odds of chance.

Windbridge conducts an assortment of studies following rigorous scientific protocols, (even up to quintuple-blinded) on these psychic mediums. Windbridge has expanded and is now also focused on ADC (after death communication) and if and how grief is healed through mediumship and ADC’s. These studies are peer reviewed, downloadable for free, and available in easy to read formats or more academic versions.

While Mark Boccuzzi and Dr. Beischel are clear to state that they do not know where these psychic mediumship abilities are actually coming from or how exactly survival of consciousness would work, the overall results of Windbridge research demonstrates that when you eliminate all “normal ways” of obtaining information, a percent of mediums are able to get accurate, specific information, about deceased loved ones significantly beyond the odds of chance. Their results are some of the strongest evidence in favor of an afterlife.

At the end of the day, whatever your belief, or lack thereof, of mediumship abilities or afterlife, the data speaks for itself, which can be transformative for anyone in grief or facing their own mortality, even the most skeptical.

What we talk about in this episode:
- There are peer-reviewed thorough studies on afterlife evidence and psychic medium’s abilities available on the Windbridge website. These studies are detailed and this podcast can only give an overview.
- Some mediums have demonstrated they can get accurate information beyond chance under strict controls.
- Windbridge uses terms such as discarnate to describe deceased loved ones. Liz loves the “sciencey” language.
- Windbridge studies on psychic mediums eliminate cold-reading and how they do so.
- Mark describes a few studies.
- Sitters (the ones who receive and score the medium readings) are carefully selected. Sometimes a “proxy,” someone who did not know the deceased loved one sits in their place, which adds another layer of blinding.
- They also are researching what the experience of giving a reading is like for a psychic medium. This includes everything from how the medium personally experiences a reading, to physiological responses of the medium.
- If a psychic medium doesn’t pass the Windbridge Certification, that does not mean they are not a skilled medium.
- Medium readings can help transform grief
- Windbridge studies ADCs (after-death communication) as well.
- Mark had an amazing dream visit from his mother after she passed away, which inspired Audrey’s Project - an opportunity for people to share ADC’s (after-death communication) of their own.
- Windbridge has also launched AnSur - Animal Survival of Consciousness Research Program.
- Mark shares an amazing time a woman connected with her deceased horse, and Liz shares a time she connected with her deceased cat Simba, including evidence that backed up she really was getting a message from Simba. This evidence was really meaningful to Liz, who is still skeptical.
- No one knows how mediumship actually works.
- Mark shares how he came to explore parapsychology, evidence of an afterlife, and how the evidence and discoveries have affected him
- Liz shares how this evidence has transformed her own grief
- Why if the evidence is so strong, do so many scientists and skeptics dismiss this research? That still scares Liz.
- Liz asks Mark what is the biggest most profound “What the Fuck” he has encountered in his research of an afterlife.
