What Happens When We Die? Is There Life After Death?

After my dad died, all I cared about was finding out if there is valid evidence of can afterlife.

Is there life after death?

That is the question I have spent the past few years trying to figure out. It sucks A LOT when someone you love dies. Everything else aside from this one question became meaningless. It was a question I thought I already had the answer to. Nothing. We die. What else could happen since we would no longer have a functioning brain

There actually is scientific evidence of reincarnation?!

But I took a shot in the dark and did a quick, desperate, and what I assumed was hopeless google search lead to the most shocking, mind-blowing thing I had ever seen – two logical-minded child psychiatrists who decided to study children who had memories of past lives. That was not the shocking part – psychiatrists study “delusions” and “fantasies” all the time. What was shocking was these two – the late Dr. Ian Stevenson and his predecessor Dr. Jim Tucker,  were concluding their experiences were valid. These children were truly remembering past lives. How? How in the fuck?!

What I had no idea of at the time was it was only the very first step in what turned out to be one astounding discovery after another.

Yes – we really do seem to continue to live after we die. I cannot begin to understand how. I have a material brain made up of neurons and cells, and this makes no sense to me, but as Dr. Ian Stevenson said about the actual results he was getting which seemed to point towards the fact we do live multiple lives : “I’m not saying it’s true, I’m just saying it happened.”

Near Death Experience - NDE’s where people die come back to life are strong evidence of an afterlife.

Another thing that baffled me and makes me think there really is life after death is NDE’s – Near Death Experiences. One of my favorite researchers on this topic is Dr. Sam Parnia.

Dr. Parnia is a traditional medical doctor with pretty impressive credentials. He is  director of research into cardiopulmonary resuscitation associate at the NYU Langone Medical Center where he is also a professor of Medicine.  As an expert in pulmonary resuscitation (resuscitating people after a heart attack) he discovered that a selection of people had NDE’s and he became fascinated. He became the main investigator on a study called AWARE AWAreness during REsuscitation (AWARE) study conducted at the University of Southampton.

Some NDE stories are absolutely mind-blowing. For example, Vicki Umipeg was born blind, but when she died she exited her body and could “see” while she was out of her body.

Imagine never having had sight and then suddenly you do -that would be so confusing. This was what she had to say about it – “I had a hard time relating to it (i.e., seeing). I had a real difficult time relating to it because I’ve never experienced it. And it was something very foreign to me … Let’s see, how can I put it into words?  It was like hearing words and not being able to understand them, but knowing that they were words. And before you’d never heard anything. But it was something new, something you’d not been able to previously attach any meaning to.”

She experienced seeing until popping back into her body and returning to “this world.”

Blind People Could See During Near Death Experiences.

Dr. Kenneth Ring is a researcher who focused on blind people who could see during NDEs (Near Death Experiences)

Dr. Ring is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Connecticut, so he is not one to be prone to woo or fantasy. He was inspired by Dr. Raymond Moody’s book, Life After Life, which was the first of it’s kind to address NDE’s. However, Dr. Ring wanted to perform a structured study on this topic to help back up and strengthen the claims and findings of Dr. Raymond Moody. While Dr. Ring wrote a few books on the topic, his book Mindsight: Near-Death and Out-of-Body Experiences in the Blind focuses on NDE’s among the blind. The most shocking and inexplicable discovery was that a blind people claimed to be able to see during their NDE’s.

One might wonder how they knew they were “seeing” if they never had before. Some had not been blind their whole lives, some were not 100 percent blind, as in they could see shadows. Some however had been blind their whole lives, and accurately described the hospital room explaining the experience of “seeing.”

In other NDE experiences, researched by different doctors and researchers as well, people have heard conversations that were taking place in the hospital waiting room while they were on their, or what turned out not to be, their death bed. They definitely shocked their loved ones when they described the conversations once they became conscious again.

Psychic Mediums have gotten evidential accurate information about our loved ones who have passed away.

Researchers such as Dr. Julie Beischel and Mark Boccuzzi, co-founders of The Windbridge Institute have been conducting studies to see if psychic mediums can get accurate information of people’s deceased loved ones under strict controls.

Windbridge has conducted up to quintuple blinded studies on psychic mediums. They have disguised the identity of the sitter (the person getting the medium reading.) In many of the experiments the medium never even saw the sitter. Some of the readings took place on the phone, where the sitter would press a button to answer yes, no, or I don’t know to the information the medium provided. In others a proxy, one of the research assistants would sit in place of the sitter. That proxy did not even know who the sitter was, or who their deceased loved one was. They just took down the information. The results were astounding. A select group of mediums were able to get a statistically significant amount of accurate information. Some got up to 90% accuracy. They knew jobs, hobbies, memories, personality traits, cause and general age of death.

Find a certified medium who is tested and highly evidential

The Forever Family Foundation also has a process where they certify mediums. These mediums are put through science-based testing to assure they are not cheating or using cold reading tactics - where a medium will assess a person based on traits such as age, style, do they have an accent? Cold reading also involves reading unconscious cues a person gives through their facial expressions.

I could not believe the things psychic mediums have known about my dad.

I have had plenty of my own psychic medium readings. I always take precautions such as giving a fake name, a google voice number, having a friend pay for me, and doing most readings on the phone where they cannot read my micro-expressions. While some of the mediums meant well but were not very accurate, some were pure frauds, some knew things about me and my dad that they could not have known!

Overall there is so much valid evidence that it has even opened up my skeptical mind to what has turned into the probability that we do survive life after death.
